This is a three-hole tap, the wide-spread 3 hole faucet installs directly into the countertop & all the plumbing connectors are below the counter-top. The home water lines connect to the "hot & cold" sides of the tap which allows the water to flow into the spout when either or both handles are switched on by re-positioning the handles towards the spout for "on" & away from the spout for "off".
