Cast Iron Bathtub Styles

Over the years the styles for bathtubs have changed dramatically. We have all seen many modern styles and sizes on the market today. For many, though, the timeless cast iron clawfoot bathtubs are the only design they want in their home. There is just something very appealing about how these tubs are crafted into the beautiful designs we have today.

rolled rim tubCast iron clawfoot tubs are available in unique styles which are appealing in different ways. The first style is called a rolled rim design. These tubs are the same height throughout from front to back. One end of the tub is designed to allow a person to recline while the other end of the tub is where the faucet would be installed. These tubs can include either a bathtub wall mount faucet, a deck mounted faucet (this type has the faucet on top of the rim of the tub), or you can have no faucet installed on the tub, but use a freestanding faucet or a bathroom wall mounted faucet. Each style has its own appeal. Space within the bathroom and the positioning of the water supply will help you determine which of these faucet styles will work best for your home.

Some classic tubs have a dual ended design. With this style, both ends of the bathtub are designed to allow a person to recline at either end of the tub. They have the same classic rolled rim style as the previously mentioned type, but with this style, the faucet is placed in the middle of the tub. Once again, you may opt for a faucet which is mounted on the rim of the bathtub or you may choose to have a freestanding or bathroom wall mounted faucet.

The most-popular style of clawfoot tubs is the slipper style. Slipper clawfoot tubs have a unique style that is unequaled in the bathtub industry. One end of the tub is raised above the foot of the tub to create a design that looks like a slipper when viewed from the side. This design style allows for a very easy way to recline while bathing and it enhances your ability to relax and unwind. Slipper tubs are available in a wide range of sizes. Like the rolled rim tubs, one end of a slipper is where the faucet is mounted. You can use most styles of faucets with this type of tub.

The final style of cast iron tub we offer is the Double Slipper Cast Iron Tub. These tubs are very spacious and have enough room for two people to bathe at the same time. Like a dual (or double) ended tub, the faucet is placed in the middle of the tub on the side. Double slippers are charactorized by both sides raised (or both ends). This makes for a very relaxing space for bathing. These tubs are built very well and are thus extremely heavy. Be sure to have at least four people move these bathtubs when you are ready to install them.

Customizing a Cast Iron Freestanding Bathtub

Customized cast iron tubsOne of our most-requested services is to customize a cast-iron bathtub. Most of the time we receive requests for painting. For years bathtubs came in only white. With the advancement of new paints and pigments (and other materials) your tub can now be customized to look they way you have always wanted. The most -requested colors are black, red, gold, and patina (a green/copper color). We can also customize the bathtub with a faux copper finish which is extremely popular with many of our customers.

Claw Foot and Plumbing Finishes

One of the neatest things things about a cast-iron clawfoot tub is that these tubs allow you to choose a finish for both the claw feet and the plumbing fixtures. For decades, chrome was one of the few finishes you could get. Today, chrome is still very popular with homeowners, but there are a lot of other finishes which are extremely popular. Brushed nickel is one of those popular finishes. It looks less shiny than chrome and adds a touch of sophistication in the eyes of many. Oil rubbed bronze (ORB) is another very popular finish. This has a darker copper look to it and has grown considerably in popularity over the past few years. Black, matte black, white, polished brass and others are also available finishes you can normally request with your purhcase.

Both the tub claw feet and the faucet (as well as the supply lines and the drain & overflow) come in the above-mentioned finishes. This will enable you to create the look you want in your home!
